Keeping Children Safe in Our Community

At Acadiana Safe Kids, we believe that keeping our children safe is something we all share responsibility for—parents, healthcare workers, and even those who protect our streets. That’s why our team is working across Acadiana to educate and equip the people who serve our community every day, from law enforcement officers to hospital staff and local families. Together, we’re creating a network of knowledge and care dedicated to preventing childhood injuries and saving lives. Recently, Acadiana Safe Kids partnered with local law enforcement agencies to provide specialized training on child safety, including safe sleep awareness and car seat education. These sessions help officers recognize unsafe situations in the community and connect families with life-saving resources instead of just citations. When officers understand the “why” behind safe sleep and seatbelt laws, they become educators and advocates, not just enforcers. Our collaboration with local hospitals has also been a vital part of this effort. Nurses and maternity staff are receiving training on how to talk with new parents about safe sleep practices, proper car seat use, and home safety tips before families ever leave the hospital. These conversations, though simple, can prevent tragedies and give parents the confidence they need to care for their little ones safely. We’re also reaching community members and caregivers directly through events, outreach programs, and educational displays in health units and waiting rooms. Families learn about water safety, sleep environments, and car seat checks—all practical lessons that can make the difference between a close call and a crisis. By meeting families where they are, Acadiana Safe Kids ensures safety information is accessible, compassionate, and culturally relevant. Every training, partnership, and community conversation brings us one step closer to a safer Acadiana. We’re proud of the momentum we’re building and the dedication shown by everyone who’s joined this mission. When law enforcement, hospitals, and community members come together with one shared goal—protecting our children—the impact reaches every home, every family, and every child in our region. At Acadiana Safe Kids, we’re more than an organization—we’re a community united for safety. Together, we’re proving that education saves lives.
